This meeting marks the return of our annual bazaar. Loads of great arts and crafts will be offered for sale. If you are interested in offering crafts for sale, booth space is available for only $10. Please contact

At 7:30 we will hold an important discussion about the future, upcoming events, and new BCOD officers election for 2011. Please join us to share your ideas.

After the meetings, we will have a social time and play games: Chaser, 10,000, Uno, and Bingo! Please come join us to have a great time!

Deaf West Theatre hosts Fall Showcase lineup featuring a wide variety of Deaf performing artists! Each week is a new show of performances. Read each section below for specific show and ticket information!

 

ASImprov

Come see the fruits of a week-long improvisational group workshop led by Tyrone Giordano of Big River fame! These dedicated improv-sters will make for a delightful evening as they try out their skills. The ensuing hilarity may or may not be intentional! Come and support your family and friends!

(75 minutes, no intermission, performed in ASL without voice interpretation)
SHOW DATES: September 2, 3, 4 @ 8pm.

Live in Hollywood: The John Maucere Show

Heeere's John Maucere! Be the first to sign up for a talk-show with special guests! Stand-up comedy and sketches await you throughout the evening, and in between sketches, Superdeafy will appear! (75 minutes, no intermission, performed in ASL with voice interpretation)

JJ the Mime: A Tribute to Red Skelton & Marcel Marceau

James "JJ" Jones is bringing an interactive multimedia mime show to Los Angeles from Kansas City! JJ uses mime techniques and multimedia to perform as well as educate and incorporates street mime, improvisation and audience participation to create a show that is not forgotten! Great for families! (90 minutes, with intermission; performed in mime without interpreter)
SHOW DATES: September 16, 17, 18 @ 8pm; September 19 @ 2pm.

Bernard Bragg: World Stage

In Bernard Bragg's mind, all the productions he appeared in have gradually faded away to a blur--but what stays in his memory, etched on his mind, are the terrifying mistakes or accidents that took place while he was performing. Watch him tell stories about how he ad-libbed his way through them, manged to side step, correct, cover up, pull though and finally made it to the curtains triumphantly, bowing to applause with a big wide grin on his face! (90 minutes, no intermission; performed in ASL with voice interpretation)
SHOW DATES: September 23, 24, 25 @ 8pm; September 26 @ 2pm.

On a White Napkin: An Evening of ASL Poetry with Terrylene

What does poetry "scribbled on a white napkin" look like in American Sign Language? For the first time, Terrylene shares her ASL poetry in an intimate setting. This fundraising event will forward eighty percent of ticket sales towards the Clerc's Children project. Clerc's Children is dedicated to empowering parents with the tools to help their deaf child meet pre-Kindergarten standards with bilingual skills. www.clercschildren.com. Spices and Blue: Jon Savage & Douglas Ridloff Live

Jon Savage and Douglas Ridloff team up for a doubleheader with their solo shows! Watch Jon, a spiced-up Deaf man, explore and re-discover his roots, incorporating the "spices" of life and culture with a multitude of Old- and New-World Spanish influences! Douglas Ridloff is a nice Jewish Boy who went blue after he discovered in his travels around the world that ditry humor was a common denominator among different cultures. Watch Douglas tantalize audiences with his unique spread of ASL genres, creative use of media and interactions with the audience! (2 hours, with intermission; performed in ASL with voice interpretation; CONTAINS MATURE THEMES)
