Tom Moran
Tom Moran joined the faculty of BC's ASL Program in August, 2002 Tom came to BC from San Diego where he was a full-time, freelance interpreter. He holds a CI (certificate of interpretation) and a CT (certificate of transliteration) through Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and is a member in good standing. Before his work as a freelance interpreter, Tom taught English and Sign Language Interpreting full-time at San Diego Mesa College. There he specialized in teaching reading and writing to students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Prior to moving to San Diego, Tom graduated from California State University, Northridge. From 1992 to 1999 Tom was an undergraduate and graduate student in the Department of English as well as serving as an academic interpreter through the National Center on Deafness and a writing consultant in the university's Learning Center. While at CSUN, Tom earned a BA in creative writing and an MA in rhetoric and composition theory. Before coming to Northridge, Tom was a student at Golden West College where he majored in sign language interpreting. He was awarded an AA degree in 1992. When not teaching, Tom is an avid photographer, rides a bicycle, and enjoys cooking. Tom is married to Israel, a preschool teacher of Deaf children. They are the loving parents of Donovan and all three reside happily in Bakersfield. Click here for more information on Tom Moran. |
