Sunday, April 22, 2007

directions

NOTICE: The bus is sold out! However, tickets are still available at the BC Ticket Office for the play, $15 each. You can meet your fellow students at the theater at 6:30 to collect your ticket from Tom Moran at will call.

A group of faculty and students from the ASL Program at Bakersfield College will travel by bus to Culver City to see Sleeping Beauty Wakes. Ticket prices for the play, the bus ride, and a small meal will total no more than $40. Watch for updated information about when tickets will go on sale.

Featuring the indie pop/rock sensation GrooveLily on stage with both Deaf and hearing actors, Sleeping beauty wakes is a fun and free adaptation of the Grimm's fairy tale. After her 100-year snooze, Beauty awakes in a new time and place where everything is strange--the palace is gone, all the princes have given up, and now she has insomnia! Or is she still asleep and dreaming? As they did with Big River, Deaf West Theater delightfully twists another classic into a unique musical where spoken English and American Sign Language are interwoven with music, dance, and song to create an exceptional theatrical experience.

Mischievous, humorous and captivating. A groundbreaking re-invention of a timeless pop musical!

Tony Award®-winning Pippin is the lively coming of age story of King Charlemagne’s oldest son. Featuring music from the award-winning composer of Wicked and Godspell, this dazzlingly colorful and imaginative tale first captivated audiences on Broadway and continues to appeal to the young-at-heart everywhere.

Director Jeff Calhoun and Deaf West Theatre follow their popular hits, Sleeping Beauty Wakes (Ovation Award winner) at the Douglas and Big River at the Taper, by transforming this beloved classic into a wildly theatrical and original musical event featuring deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing actors as voice and American Sign Language are interwoven with music, dance, and joyous storytelling.
