Courses in language & rationality are those which develop for the student the principles & applications of language toward logical thought, clear & precise expression, & critical evaluation of communication.

Take 3 units in oral communication & 3 units in written communication.

Definition Student Learning Outcomes BC General Education Courses
Courses in natural sciences are those that examine the physical universe, its life forms, and its natural phenomena. Further, courses in the natural sciences help the student develop an appreciation and understanding of the scientific method. Courses in the natural sciences, math and logic help students apply logical, qualitative and quantitative reasoning in solving problems or analyzing arguments.

Take 3 units in Natural Sciences & 3 units in Math and Logic.

Definition Student Learning Outcomes BC General Education Courses
Courses in the social and behavioral sciences are those which focus on people as individuals and as members of society. The courses will help the student develop an understanding of the methods of inquiry used by the social and behavioral sciences.

For an AA Degree, take 3 units from American History and Politics, and 3 units from Other Social Science Courses and 3 units from Behavioral Science.

For the AS Degree, take 3 units from American History and Politics, or from Other Social Science Courses and 3 units from Behavioral Science.

Multicultural Requirement
Definition

Bakersfield college
requires students to take courses that are inclusive of multicultural perspectives found in American and global society. This requirement may be satisfied through studying either American ethnic groups or world cultures.

Courses meeting the American Ethnic Groups and Subgroups requirement should include the study of a minimum of three ethnic groups, at least two groups from non-European origin.

Courses meeting the World Cultures requirement should include the study of a minimum of three different world cultures, at least one of which is not solely based in western civilization.
