Art B25 - Typography | ![]()
Project Description Choose a group of words which express emotions, actions, things or concepts. Using type which is somehow altered, render these words in an expressive manner using one of the 5 classic typefaces (Garamond, Baskerville, Bodoni, Century Schoolbook, Helvetica). Develop at least 15 to 20 ideas in your sketchbook. (This is good practice for developing logotypes.) Process 1. Sketch, draw, doodle many, many drawings and sketches before settling on just one. Show me these sketches before you begin drawing on the computer. The sketches count as part of your grade and are not optional. Consider purchasing an inexpensive tracing pad to help speed the drawing process. This will allow you to use printed type as reference. 2. You may alter the type to help convey your meaning, but the type must be recognizable. Remember to use Adobe Illustrator when you get to the computer. Use the "convert to outlines" option. 3. Concept, concept, concept is the most important thing! 4. Black and white only. No gray, no color. 5. As you are working on the design, be especially aware of tracking and kerning. Perfect kerning is a fantastic goal.
