Sentence Combining Exercise:

1) Make three compound sentences which use a coordinating conjunction and comma. All three must use different coordinating conjunctions.

2) Make two compound sentences which use a semicolon—remember a semicolon is considered a “weak period” because both sentences must be on the same topic.

3) Make three compound sentences which use a semicolon, conjunctive adverbs, and comma. All three must use different conjunctive adverbs.

4) Make four complex sentences. Two must use the subordinate clause in the beginning of the sentence, and two must use it in the middle. Also, all four sentences must use completely different subordinate clauses.

5) Make three compound-complex sentences. All three must use different types of combinations and must use different combining words (such as subordinate clauses).
