STDV B1 Educational Planning (0.5 unit)

Designed to assist students in understanding college require­ments and to help them in making educational plans. Required for the associate’s degree. Satisfies the 0.5 unit educational planning requirement for graduation from Bakersfield College. Recommended: Reading Level 5 or 6. Hours: 9 lect/disc. Offered: F, S. CCS: Liberal Arts & Sciences. Transferable: CSU and private colleges. Elective credit only. Note: Not open to students who have taken the equivalent course, STDV B 201.  Instructor signature required.

STDV B6 Tools for College Survival (2 units)

Increasing the probability of student success in college by helping students obtain skills necessary to reach their educa­tional objective. Provides the opportunity to learn and adapt skills proven to promote success in college, including study skills and personal life skills. Satisfies 0.5 unit educational planning requirement for graduation from Bakersfield Col­lege. Recommended: Reading Level 5 or 6. Hours: 36 lect. Offered: F, S. CCS: Liberal Arts & Sciences. STDV B55a Strategies for College Success (1 unit)

Strategies to assist students to be successful in their college careers. To enhance their probability of success, students will learn communication skills, stress reduction, self-esteem education, goal achievement, problem solving, and the ability to focus their energy and think positively about school.Hours: 18 lect/disc. ACDV B190 Assistive Technology for Students with Dis­abilities (.5 units)

Provides individual computer access assessment. Based on the findings, students are trained on the appropriate access technologies (text-to-speech, voice recognition, reading and writing tools, etc.). Designed to teach the fundamental ac­cess technologies needed for the student to complete writing assignments, web search projects, and to be independent in other courses. Hours: 9 lect. ACDV B195 Word Processing for Students With Disabilities (3 units).

New symbolSPST B48: Disability Management (1.5 units).

Students learn to manage their disabilities, and will identify their legal rights and responsibilities, functional limitations, academic accommodations, mitigating measures, job accommodations, available support and resources, and how to handle disputes. This is a 1.5 unit grade-based course, that applies as an elective toward an AA/AS degree.
