Most of us never plan for the un-intentional immediate disruption of normal daily business, but it can and has happened. One morning in the area of Northridge California the unthinkable happened.

At 4:30 am, on January 17, 1994, residents of the greater Los Angeles area were rudely awakened by the strong shaking of the Northridge earthquake. This was the first earthquake to strike directly under an  urban area of the United States since the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.

In 1952 Bakersfield California had a large scale quake, it would benefit each of us if you would click on the Video Files tab to the left and then click on and watch each of the three Academic AfterShock videos.
