Put your visual journal either in a traditional journal or in a scrapbook. This assignment should fill about 2 facing pages...
Choose a single co-culture* that exists in the community where you now live OR the community where you have spent most of your life.
*co-culture: A culture that co-exists within a larger/dominant culture. This might be a culture based on shared ethnic heritage, shared beliefs/values or shared experiences that lead to common learned behaviors and attitudes. Local examples: Basque Community, Deaf Community, Sikh Community, Latter Day Saint Community, LGBTQ Community, Japanese-American Community, Greek Orthodox Community, etc...
Visually (with pictures and minimal words) trace the contributions of that co-culture since the arrival of its descendants in your community.
In your exploration of the growth of the co-culture answer the following questions visually:
1) Show several aspects of the co-culture as it exists in your community today.
2)Show some of the roots of this co-culture in your community.
3) Show some reasons people from this co-culture came to your community.
4) Show how people from this co-culture influence your community.
5) Show visible evidence of of the co-cultures impact on the community (celebrations, traditions, architectural influences, etc...)
