HOPES

Bakersfield College is one of the newest chapters to SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers).  We recently joined SHPE in Fall 2005. The name of our chapter is HOPES (Hispanic Organization Promoting Engineering Sciences), and we are proudly part of Region 1.

Every year our organization here at Bakersfield College, participates in the National Technical Career Conferences (NTCC), which is held in various destinations throughout the United States. Last year in Fall 2008, we participated in the SHPE National Conference, which was held in Phoenix, AZ. We also, participate in The National Institute for Leadership Advancement (NILA), and The Regional Leadership Development Conference (RLDC), West Coast Career Expo, among others.

All three of these conferences, give us the opportunity to meet with other SHPE chapters from around the US. They provide leadership and professional development as well as networking and employment opportunties. They also, increase our chances of transferring to a engineering or science university
