Garden Fest, Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm is an open house featuring the Environmental Horticulture program that brings thousands of visitors to the Bakersfield College Environmental Horticulture Arboretum for a day of gardening, pet care, cooking, outdoor leisure, and arts & crafts booths. Garden Fest is a one day event designed to educate, help raise awareness and raise funds for many nonprofit organizations. This year Garden Fest will be highlighting Earth Day with a “Garden Fest Green and Clean.” This year’s event will emphasize environmentally friendly garden concepts and how easy going green can be. Attendees will learn how they can be Earth friendly and save money with environmentally friendly landscaping and home improvement ideas. New this year will be the Mean and Green Car Show featuring local car clubs with beautifully detailed cars and manufacturers of environmentally friendly hybrid cars for a cleaner tomorrow. The California Landscape Contractors Association Garden Stage will feature free seminars presented by industry professionals who inform and entertain attendees about gardening, floral design, and cooking. Learn how to install a water feature in your yard from start to finish with the Build-A-Pond seminar presented by Buck’s Landscape Materials and Pond Shop. Animal lovers will enjoy our “Pets and Plants” classroom featuring the BC small animal companion class presentation of pets and plant safety. “Adopt-A-Pet” will be presented by Kern County Animal Control. This event also brings community gardening clubs, schools, forestry, parks and recreation, and green organizations to educate and inform the public. Garden Fest also features the Renegade Ranch Farmer’s Market featuring products produced by BC Ag students and fresh fruit and vegetables from Murray Family Farms. Breakfast and lunch will be prepared by the outstanding BC Culinary Arts Department and have some ice cream from Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. The Arts and Crafts fair is anchored by the BC Fine Arts Ceramics department, featuring works of art designed by both faculty and student artisans. And to keep the younger crowd entertained don’t miss Battlefield Live laser tag and River’s End Rafting climbing wall.
This year’s event has over 120 booths for the one day event.
