My undergraduate work was completed at Bakersfield College and Cal State University Bakersfield where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1992. I earned my Master of Science in Teaching with an emphasis in Mathematics from the University of Wyoming, in 1997.
I taught part-time at CSUB for one year before I was hired by the Kern High School District. I was a teacher at Stockdale High for 4 years, was the Visiting Lecturer at CSUB for 1 year, and then taught at Foothill High School for 7 years. During my 12 years with the KHSD, I taught a variety of math courses from Pre-Algebra through Calculus. I also served as department chair at FHS for 3 years.
Bakersfield College has a long tradition of teaching excellence. I was very excited to become part of the BC's teaching staff in the Fall of 2005!
I am interested in finding new ways to make Mathematics more interesting to learn for my students, and I would like to participate in activities that make it easier for high school students to successfully transition to the college level. At this time, I serve as the chairperson for the BC High School Outreach Committee and I also serve on the Focus Group Committee which is committed to improving retention in our Math 50 courses.
