About Mr. Caras...

I was born and raised in Bakersfield, and attended Noble Elementary, Chipman Jr. High School, Bakersfield High School, and Bakersfield College.  While at BC, I went through this Electronics Program and received a Certificate of Achievement in Electronics Technology.  It allowed me to work my way through college as an Electronics Technician, and to gain valuable industry experience in the Electronics field.

I attended California State University, Fresno and received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts.  I was able to receive a teaching credential in Industrial Technology. Soon, I will begin my Master's degree at Ball State University in Indiana (on-line).

Most of my teaching career has been spent at the high school level.  I began my teaching career at Fresno High School (in Fresno, CA).  I moved back to Bakersfield, and was one of the first teachers at Stockdale High School.  I transferred to Centennial High School, and then to the Regional Occupational Center (in Bakersfield).  I was present at the first graduation of both Stockdale and Centennial high schools.  My change of schools was due to greater opportunities with each job change.

At each high school, I was able to teach Electronics.  However, I have also taught drafting, architectural drawing, woodshop, manufacturing (wood-based), and technology courses.  During my student teaching, I also taught auto mechanics.

I was hired at Bakersfield College in August of 2001, and have been working hard to improve my classes and the Electronics Program since then.  Although I enjoyed every school at which I have taught, my position at Bakersfield College has been my "dream job."  I enjoy the strong industry connection, supportive work environment, and motivated students I have experienced at BC.

Although I could not imagine leaving teaching for another career, I would have been interested in being an animatronics designer in the movie special effects industry, a choir director at the high school level, or a real estate developer.

For hobbies I enjoy music, remodeling/construction, restoring classic muscle cars, and have been involved with stock car racing at the former Mesa Marin Raceway.

The most satisfying part of my job is when current and former students let me know that they have been hired in a great job (some make more money than I do), and that their future is bright and full of possibilities.
