Jan. 1999 –  Jan. 2002    Assistant Professor of English, specializing in teaching English to Deaf and hard of hearing students. Taught developmental English courses and transfer-level composition courses as well as AMSL 209, Professional Aspects of Interpreting. Member of academic affairs committee; member of disabled stu­dents’ faculty committee; certified affirmative action representative.
 
Mar. 2001 – Jan 2002    Instructor for English skills development class for Deaf adults through Deaf Community Service’s Literacy Program.
 
Aug. 1995 - Dec. 1998    Adjunct faculty member in the Department of English, California State University, Northridge. Developed a section of English 097 for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing

May 2000 – Aug. 2002   Freelance Sign Language Interpreter with Deaf Community Services, San Diego. Member of ASL Weekend Committee. Member of annual gala interpreting staff.
 
Aug. 1999 – Jul 2002    Academic Sign Language Interpreter with San Diego State University, San Diego.
 
Oct. 1997 - Dec. 1998    Staff Interpreter for the National Center on Deafness. Interpreted for director, staff members, and guests in a variety of professional and administrative contexts. Mentor for Video Outreach Mentorship Program through WROCC.
 
Aug. 1989- Oct. 1997    Academic Sign Language Interpreter.  Provided sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation and transliteration for Deaf and hearing students, faculty, and staff.  Interpreted courses ranging from alge­bra to women’s studies at Cypress College, Golden West College, and California State University, Northridge
 

PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 Feb. 2008      Graduated "Building Strong Locals Academy," an intensive one-year training for Community College Association members.
 
    Feb. 2006      By action of the Kern Community College District Board of Trustees, granted tenure at Bakersfield College.

May 1997       Recipient of the Mitchell Marcus Prize in English, outstanding graduate student in English at California State University, Northridge.

May 1995      Recipient of the 1995 Outstanding Interpreter Service Award from the National Center on Deafness.

Aug.-Dec. 2000    Studied with Dr. Bill Piland in A Learning Community of Community College Teachers.  Earned 3.0 units through San Diego State University.
